DUPAGE COUNTY GREENE VALLEY PRESERVE

2.6 miles east of Farmstead. East on Knoll Drive to Auburn Avenue to 79th

The preserve covers more than 1,400 acres. It is wonderful getaway for birdwatching, as hawks and waterbirds populate the wetlands. In the spring and summer, Greene Valley Hill and its 190-foot high observation area is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Over 11 miles of marked multipurpose trails wind through woodlands, savannas and wetlands wind through the preserve. The Tricky-Tree-Trek is a self-guided nature trail that gives visitors a chance to make and use their own leaf identification keys.

NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT

  • HUNTERS WOODS (9 acres) – One mile south of Farmstead on Fair Oak, then east on Stoney Ridge. Playgound, picnic shelter, pond and wooded walking trail that is 1/4 mile long links to STANFORD MEADOWS park.
  • MEADOW GLENS (18 acres) – 1/2 mile north of Farmstead, just north of Bailey Road and Fender. Basketball courts, softball fields, multi use fields, parking spaces.
  • EAGLE PARK (4 acres owned) – 1/4 mile north of Farmstead from Bailey and Knoll. Two playgrounds and large open space.
  • UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS PARK (Approx.10 acres) – 1/4 mile west of Farmstead on River Oak. Two playgrounds, picnic table and large open space.
